What is nutrition coaching?Nutrition coaching is a personalized service provided by qualified Registered Dietitians who help individuals achieve their health and wellness goals through targeted dietary guidance, education, and ongoing support.
How does one-on-one nutrition coaching work?My one-on-one coaching services begin with an initial consultation, during which I will assess the client's goals, health status, and diet. Based on this information, I will create a personalized nutrition plan that takes into account the client's unique needs, preferences, and lifestyle. Throughout the coaching process, I will work closely with you to provide ongoing support, feedback, and guidance. This may include but is not limited to regular check-ins (via email, client portal, or phone), meal planning strategies, and nutrition education.
Where do we met for nutrition coaching?Elevate Sports Nutrition, LLC is based out of Hershey, Pennsylvania. Appointments can be scheduled in person (for Pennsylvania based clients) or virtually.
What can I expect in a typical follow-up coaching session? Our follow-up sessions focus on introducing strategies to help our clients achieve their goals, work through any barriers, and propel them forward. In a typical session, you can expect to discuss your progress, address challenges or concerns, receive education on relevant nutrition topics, set goals, and receive personalized recommendations to improve your diet and overall health.
How many follow-up coaching sessions do I need?New clients may wonder how many sessions are needed. That will depend on your goals, readiness to change, and what support systems you have in place. I will work with you to determine the appropriate timeline to help you achieve sustainable results and I am here to support you as long as you find value in our sessions or need the extra accountability and support.
How can I purchase follow-up sessions? After completing an initial nutrition assessment, you may purchase follow-up sessions individually or in packages. Once you have completed a follow up-package, you may renew, change to a different package, or move to scheduling individual sessions. Follow-up sessions can be purchased in quantities of three, six, or ten sessions.
Can you customize a nutrition plan based on my specific goals and dietary needs?Yes, absolutely! I specialize in tailoring nutrition plans to meet your specific goals, whether it's weight loss, muscle gain, improved athletic performance, or managing a specific health condition. I consider your unique dietary preferences and lifestyle to create a plan that works for you.
Will I have to count calories or follow a strict diet plan?My approach to nutrition coaching is flexible and individualized. While we may discuss portion sizes and macronutrient balance, I will focus on teaching you sustainable eating habits rather than strict calorie counting. I strive to create a plan that fits your lifestyle and preferences, making it easier for you to stick to it long-term.
What can a Registered Dietitian help me with?Registered Dietitians are trained experts in the field of nutrition and have the knowledge to address medical conditions and specific disease states impacted by food intake, weight management, and promoting long-term health using food.
A few areas that a Registered Dietitian can help you with include:
- Sustainable weight loss and/or gain
- Improving athletic performance
- Disordered eating and relationship with food
- Management of chronic conditions (heart disease, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, hyperlipidemia, etc.)
- Eating with a food allergy or sensitivity
- Nourishing a child who is a picky eater
- Management gastrointestinal disorders (Chron’s, acid reflux, IBS, etc.)
- General healthy eating and meal preparation
- Pre and post-natal nutrition
Is a Registered Dietitian different from a nutritionist?YES. The terms “Registered Dietitian” and “nutritionist” are often used interchangeably, but there are distinct differences between the two in terms of professional qualifications and regulatory oversight. A registered dietitian (RD) or registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) is a recognized healthcare professional who has completed specific academic and professional requirements. These requirements include a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from an accredited program, completion of a year-long supervised practice program, and passing a national examination. Additionally, Registered Dietitians must obtain state licensure for where they practice and are required to meet ongoing continuing education requirements. These requirements contribute to an in-depth knowledge and expertise in areas such as medical nutrition therapy, clinical nutrition, and the application of nutrition to promote health and manage various medical conditions. The term "nutritionist" is not regulated in the same way as "registered dietitian” is, thus anyone can call themselves a nutritionist without specific qualifications or certifications. Some nutritionists may be able to provide general nutrition guidance, however the level of knowledge and training can vary significantly due to a lack of standardized regulation. In summary, Registered dietitians are regulated healthcare professionals, whereas the term "nutritionist" is not uniformly regulated and can be used by individuals with different levels of qualifications.
Can nutrition coaching help with specific health conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure?Yes, nutrition coaching can be extremely beneficial for managing various health conditions. I have experience working with clients with conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, food allergies, and more, and can provide guidance on dietary modifications, meal planning, and lifestyle changes to support your health needs.
How should I prepare for my appointment? Here are a few ways that you can prepare for your initial consult:
- Consider starting a food diary! A food diary is very helpful for reviewing your current food and beverage intake. Just write down what you eat and drink for at least 3 days prior to your visit
- Create a list of questions to ask during your visit
- Current list of medications including medication name and dosage
- Current list of supplements
- Your most current blood work/labs
- If you have diabetes, bring your blood glucose log
Do I need bloodwork done before the initial assessment?
If you haven’t done so in a while having blood work drawn prior to your initial consult is useful but not mandatory. You can request a copy of your most current blood work/labs from your primary doctor. If it is determined to be necessary, blood work can be performed after your initial consultation.
